ALBRT EINSTEIN

                               ALBRT EINSTEIN

Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879 at ULM, a small town in Germany. He was a man with a modern outlook. His parents were Hermann and Pauline Einstein. Einstein had a sister Maja.

Albert’s father was an Engineer and was having a factory owned jointly with his brother Jacob.

Albert was a dull boy and late in learning to talk. He was a shy boy. He spent his time reading books. He liked listening to music. Albert was however very strong and healthy.

When Albert was five years old, his father gave him a magnetic compass to play with. He noticed that the needle in the compass would always point in the same direction, even when it was turned to any direction. He felt that there must be some unseen force that was present which held the needle fixed I a particular direction.

Albert was always curious to know’ why?’ of so many things he observed. He would ask: “what a sun-ray is made up of?” From where darkness comes?”

As Albert’s mother, Pauling was a gifted Piano player and she used to play music every day. So she began teaching Violin to Albert even when he was six years old. He did not give up Violin even when he became one of the greatest scientists of the world.

Albert as a boy hated discipline regimental style of life. He used to call his teachers as “Lieutenants’ and ‘Sergeants’!

A Young Jewish medical student Max Talmcy had a strong influence on the form tic mind of Albert. Albert used to get a number of science books from Talmey and read them.

Teachers found Albert an unmanageable student. For he never automatically accepted what they taught. The teacher in turn would get angry and punish him!

In those days Jews were made to live a miserable lif by the Christians because he was a Jew. Albert was teased and insulted by his class and school mates.

Albert was given a book titled krafts and stoff (i.e. force and matter) by Tamely. This book influenced Albert greatly. He used to enquire about philosophy, Universe etc. and seek answer from Max. As Albert grew up, his interest in physics became more and more.

Albert had an Uncle Jake. His uncle gave Albert his first understanding of Algebra.

One winter his father gave Albert a book on Geometry. It contained Euclid’s ideas on the subject. Euclid was an ancient Mathematician from Alexandria in Egypt. At that time Albert was aged 12 years only. The book congaing statements, diagrams and clarity of proof appealed to him greatly.

Albert was 15 years old. His father due to financial losses closed down his electrical goods factory and moved to Milan in Italy to start the same business there.

Albert completed his Diploma curse at the gymnasium which was necessary to continue later higher studies in the University and then went and joined his parents in Italy.

He could not study in Italy as he had no knowledge of Italian language. So he went to Switzerland to study higher course.

Albert joined a polytechnic in Zurich in 1896. He was then 17 years old.

Einstein’s father’s financial position became so bad that he was no more able to give any money to his son. So Einstein needed a job immediately.

Einstein could secure a job in the patent office through his classmate Marcel Grossman who knew Mr. Haller, the director of the patent office in Berne. His salary was 250 Swiss franks per month. This was sufficient for Einstein to live a comfortable life.

He had ample time to devote to his scientific pursuits.

He married his girl friend of Zurich polytechnic, Mileva Marist. They had two sons. His job in the patent office gave him a fine opportunity to study the different inventions which were brought to obtain patent right.

Albert Einstein’s climb to scientific Himalayan heights began in the year 1905. When he published some. Scientific papers in which he propounded that time was relative in his paper titled “Special Theory of Relativity” which was full of new ideas about time, space, motion and gravitation.

His very famous equation:
E=MC 2.
That more from this theory eventually led to the making of ATOM BOMB!

Einstein’s another theory was that light could be inferred as a stream of tiny particles. This later became a solid base for finding of a new device called “Electric Eye”. This again later led to the inventions of live Sound Motion Pictures, Television and many such inventions.

Albert Einstein wins Nobel Prize

In 1909 he became a Professor in Zurich University. In the year 1913 he became Director of Kaiser Wilhelm Institute in berlin.

He published his Theory of Relativity in 1916 which won him “World Wide fame and recognition.

Atom Bomb

Einstein’s earlier discovery that mater can be turned into energy made some great physicist to think that Uranium atoms might be needed to produce an explosion.

In his 1905 paper on Relativity, Einstein’s had provided a mathematical formula as a sort of footnote to special relativity.

E=MC2.

This famous relationship made it very clean that tremendous enormous energy is contained in a small amount of mass.

According to Albert ‘Mass’ is in fact a frozen energy!

Einstein realized that if such energy is released suddenly, the world would have most fearsome dangerous weapon of mass destruction.

Taking advantage of the above discovery, scientists began to build up an Atom Bomb!

The above unraveled the energy source of most of the Universe. It also explains why the SUN and STARS shine!

Einstein’s work on light has helped the growth of “Quantum Theory”.

Einstein’s life long regret

Albert Einstein’s was sad throughout his life that his scientific research should have led to the discovery of the ATOM BOMB, the most destructive scientific invention! Often Albert Einstein was referred to as the father of Atom Bomb!

When the America destroyed totally two Japanese twin cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki with the bomb, Einstein felt inwardly indirectly guilty. So he spent the rest of his life for peace and brotherhood among people and promotion of Universal fraternity. He so naturally was a grate admirer of Mahatma Gandhiji whose sole purpose of life was non-violent peace, equality and universal fraternity.

Einstein’s other discovery-light

Einstein hypothesized that the energy carried by any light particle is proportional to the frequency of the radiation.

Einstein used to say:

“The only source of knowledge is experience. I believe that scientific theories art h free creations of finely tuned physical intuitions and theory preserves cannot be logically connected to experiment”.
Einstein Leaves Germany

Hitler was ruling Germany then. Einstein, a Jew knew very well that Hitler hated Jews very much. So he decided to leave Germany.

On an invitation from U.S.A. Einstein went to New York. When photographers and reports met him, he jocularly said:

“Th ladies in New York want to have a new style each year and “Relativity” is this year’s fashion!”

In 1939 Einstein along with several other Physicist submitted a Memorandum to the America President F.D. Roosevelt about urgent possibility of making an atom bomb and the likelihood of German Government to seize the opportunity to embark on such a course. But Einstein played no direct role in the venture.

Albert Einstein died in his sleep at the Princeton Hospital at the age of 76 years on 19th April, 1955.

Before his death had signed a proclamation against the use Nuclear Weapons.

Einstein loved children. He used to listen to their ideas and share with them.

The following anecdotes show how greatly he loved children.

A little girl lived in the neighbor-hood of Einstein’s home. She went often to him. The girl’s mother asked her daughter why she was visiting Einstein frequently and disturbing him. The little girl said:

“I have trouble with my home work in arithmetic. I came to know that at No.12 a person was living who is a grate mathematician. Everybody said he is a good person. I went to him and asked him to help me with my home work. He explains everything very well. It is easier to understand then when our teacher explained it in school. He always welcomed me!”

When she heard this, she knew that the person was no other than the great Mathematician and physicist. The child’s mother was panic stricken. She rushed to Einstein’s house and apologized for her daughter’s behavior and distributing him.

But Einstein smiled and said:
“You don’t have to excuse yourself. I have really learned more from the conversation with your child than she did with me!
